EURO 2004

Welcome everybody to a new football tournament full of excitement (hopefully) and some more surprises. After Worldcup 2002 in Japan/South Korea I offer another round of betting and predicting of all group matches and additionally the knock-out rounds including the final. Everybody is more than welcome, even Mark!

Rules and point system

The aim is to predict all results starting from the opening match, Portugal-Greece, till the the final on the 4th of July. A list of the group matches can be downloaded here. Please fill in your results and send it to schmidta@cf.ac.uk. And don't forget to enter your name as well! Prior to the first match you will receive a list of all people entered and their prediction.

After each match has finished you gain points according to your prediction and the final result. If you have predicted the correct result, say 3-1 and they play 3-1, you get 3 points. If you have predicted the correct goal difference but not the correct result, say 2-0 and they play 3-1, you will get 2 points. If you guessed the winner correctly but with a different goal difference, e.g. 4-3 instead of 3-1, you will still get 1 point. In case of a draw you will get either 3 pionts for the correct result or 1 point for the prediction of the draw, BUT not 2 points. In the course of the knock-out stages the result after 120 minutes (if extra time is played) will count, NOT a penalty shout-out! Hence, draws are possible.

You can also guess before the tournament starts the winning team of EURO 2004. If you are right you will gain 5 extra points! If there are still some questions, do not hesitate and drop me a line.

Updates and results

On this web page there will be frequently an update of the points, depending how much time I've got to spare. You can see the scores and a table of the standings including some notes. If you like to send notes or comments, feel free and send them to me and I will put them on this page as well.

Prizes and entry

Now to the most important part. If you want to participate you have to pay an entry fee of 2 pounds. The winner of this competition will receive 50 % of the prize money, the runner-up 30% and the third place the remaining 20 %. If there is a tie after the tournament, the one with the most correct results will win. If both have the same number of correct results the money will be shared.

Good luck and have fun,

ANDI
